Καλώς Ήλθατε! – Welcome!
Our Community:
Although small in numbers, it is important to note that the people of this community are very committed to and are very proud of our Greek heritage and our Greek Orthodox Faith. Formally known as The Hellenic Orthodox Community of Saskatoon, Koimissis Tis Theotokou, it was officially registered in 1964 for the purpose of serving the needs of the Greek people of Saskatoon. This provided the opportunity to continue the important work done by the early Greek immigrants of Saskatoon and to pass on to future generations our rich culture and in particular our Greek Orthodox faith that is so dear us. Further to this, our organization attempts to support and whenever possible take on an active role in many events which occur within the Saskatoon community.
• Over the years we have taken part in many festivals such as the Canada Day Celebrations, and Folkfest, a three day festival in the summer.
• We have prepared food hampers to those in need, provided financial assistance on many occasions including the victims of the fires in Greece.
• Our dance groups have often performed in a variety of celebrations and events throughout the province of Saskatchewan including Senior Citizen Homes throughout Saskatoon.
• We are also very proud to have been affiliated with many charitable organizations over the years, to host events such as Oniro now known as Jim’s Ouzopalooza whereby funds are raised to support a variety of worthwhile causes within Saskatoon.
• Another important project that we support is the Hellenic Language School which allows our young people and adults an opportunity to learn the Greek language along with the rich Greek culture.
