Consulate General in Vancouver – Head of Mission

Mr. Athanasios Ioannou has assumed his duties as Consul General of Greece in Vancouver on 31/12/2016.

He was born in 1966 and he has a degree of Law (University of Athens).

He began his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 1992 where he served up to 1992 at the NATO Directorate. He was then transferred at the Embassy of Greece in New Delhi and later served as Consul of Greece in Venice.

During the period 2002-2004, he served as Deputy Director at the Office of the Secretary General of European Affairs and after a short term of office at the Personnel Department, he was posted at the Embassy in Kiev for the period 2004-2006. He then served as Consul General of Greece in Naples, Italy, up to 2009.

Between 2009-2012, Mr. Ioannou served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs initially as Director at the Office of the Secretary General for Ιnternational Development Programs and later at the A9 Directorate of Sub-Saharan Africa.

At October 2012 he was transferred to the Embassy of Greece in Pretoria, South Africa, where he remained until December 2016.

Mr. Ioannou is married to Georgia (Gina) Ftara and has two children, Daphne and Alexis.
